Green vs cured concrete: stop killing diamond blades
A blade built for cured slab will glaze on green concrete. A soft-bond green blade will round over on hard aggregate. Match the bond to the pour — or keep buying discs.
Most wasted diamond blades I see did not fail from a bad batch. They failed from the wrong bond on the wrong pour.
Green concrete is abrasive and still soft. It wants a harder bond so the diamonds stay exposed while the slurry eats the matrix. Cured, hard aggregate concrete wants a softer bond so the rim renews instead of polishing smooth and skating. Use them backwards and you get heat, glaze, and a crew blaming the saw.
A field checklist before you cut
- Age of the pour. Same-day or next-day control joints are a different blade than a five-year warehouse slab.
- Aggregate and rebar. River gravel, limestone, and heavy rebar change how fast the rim wears. Tell us what is in the mix.
- Wet vs dry and machine RPM. Overspeed a blade and you cook it regardless of bond. Match the arbor and the rated RPM on the disc.
- Depth and length of cut. Long highway joints and short opening cuts do not wear the same. Stock the size you will actually burn, not the one that was on sale.
