Saginaw Valley roadwork is heating up this fall — stock for it
M-46 resurfacing starts Sept. 8. Tittabawassee rehab resumes Sept. 14. If you cut asphalt or concrete around Freeland and Saginaw, this is your next six weeks.
The Saginaw Valley just told you what the next six weeks look like. MDOT is putting nearly $3.7 million into resurfacing about 12.5 miles of M-46 from Croswell Road to Merrill, starting September 8 and running through mid-October. The Saginaw County Road Commission pauses Tittabawassee Road for Labor Day, then picks Stage 3 back up September 14 between Towne Center and North Michigan.
That is not national news. That is work within a short drive of Freeland — milling, HMA, flagging, railroad crossing rebuilds in Breckenridge, single-lane ops. Crews that wait until the morning of a pour to order blades and abrasives are the ones calling us at 6:45 a.m. already behind.
What this kind of work burns through

The mistake I see every season
People treat MDOT press releases like traffic complaints. They are demand forecasts. When a county says work resumes September 14, that means blade, fuel, and rental calendars fill the week before — not the week after.
